China-based Lenovo announced at IFA 2015 in Berlin a surprisingly device that can be described as a fairly shameless copy of the Surface Pro 3. The device is the Lenovo Ideapad Miix 700, with Core M7, keyboard cover and a 12-inch, 3:2 display.
Lenovo presents at IFA 2015 a definitely unexpected Tablet PC, clearly based on Microsoft Surface Pro 3. With a 12-inch screen in 3:2 ratio and 2160×1440 resolution (same ratio, diagonal and resolution of the Microsoft device) the new Ideapad Miix 700 has an integrated kickstand – and it is the first Tablet PC with Core M7 to be presented in IFA Berlin.
If even the representatives of the Chinese manufacturer don’t deny the evidence, saying that the device is inspired by the Microsoft Surface, the new Tablet PC is still capable to show himself in a very good light. In addition to the Core M7 CPU with Intel Skylake-Y microarchitecture that allows the Tablet PC to have a fanless body, it is certainly to be cited the presence of a rear-facing Intel RealSense 3D camera and optional 4G/LTE WWAN connectivity. Compared to Surface Pro 3, is also reported the presence of two full-size USB ports.
The integrated support, which unlike the Surface Pro 3 makes use of clearly visible joints with a “watch band” effect somewhat similar to those seen on Yoga 3 Pro, expands at will allowing extreme angles. The magnetically-attachable keyboard, that the user can use flat or slightly angled, looks like a standard Lenovo keyboard and, as reported by those present at the fair, it is able to offer a writing experience much higher than that offered by Microsoft Type Covers.
From the pen point of view, the Lenovo official announcement do not speak in detail about the technology used in the IdeaPad Mix 700 – but the available photos and the Lenovo tradition, make it almost certain the use of a Wacom active digitizer; the pen is also dockable laterally to the Tablet PC when not in use. Please note that Lenovo WriteIt software will be pre-installed on Miix 700.
