Toshiba America announced today the new 10.1-inch, Atom x5, business-oriented hybrid Tablet PC Toshiba Encore 10 – and his educational counterpart Toshiba Encore 10K.

Few weeks ago the WiFi Alliance and several stores unveiled a new Toshiba Tablet PC, named Satellite Click 10: today Toshiba America announced the new Tablet PC – the first Toshiba device with Windows 10 – with an unexpected name: Toshiba Encore 10 (no correlations with the Toshiba Encore 2 WT10).

This business-oriented hybrid device, who doubles with an education-oriented edition named Toshiba Encore 10K, is a premium 2-in-1 detachable Tablet PC based on a 10.1-inch Full HD IPS display, and powered by an Intel Atom x5 quad-core 22-nm “Cherry Trail” processor.

According to Toshiba, the Encore 10 “provides enterprise grade performance to support a line of business applications”, while the Encore 10K “is a perfect detachable 2-in-1 notebook for students and educators” providing a detachable keyboard with a second battery that allows to an 11-hour battery life (the Encore 10 will have a “normal” keyboard dock and a 7-hours battery life).

The Encore 10 and Encore 10K are both built with an extremely light (590 grams without keyboard), yet durable magnesium alloy; the 10.1-inch Full HD IPS display delivers wide viewing anglesbut does not have an active digitizer with pen support.

Aesthetically similar to the Encore Mini, both the Tablet PCs feature a 64 GB eMMC SSD, up to 4 GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 802.11a/b/g/n plus Bluetooth 4.0 wireless connectivity. In tablet mode the user can use the “standard” ports: microHDMI, microUSB 2.0, microSD and Full HD webcam; with the keyboard attached, users can use additional full-size VGA, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet and two USB 3.0.

Full specifications shows:

  • Intel Atom x5 quad-core CPU
  • Up to 4 GB of LPDDR3 RAM
  • Up to 64 GB eMMC
  • Intel HD Graphics
  • 10.1-inch IPS display (1920×1200)
  • Passive-capacitive multitouch digitizer
  • microHDMI, microUSB 2.0, microSD
  • WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n (dual-band), Bluetooth 4.0
  • Dual webcams
  • on keyboard: VGA, HDMI, RJ45 Gigabit, 2x USB 3.0
  • Secondary battery on keyboard (Encore 10K only)
  • Weight: 590 gr (tablet only)

The Encore 10 will have a suggested price of $299 for Windows 10 models or $399 for Windows 10 Professional, while the Encore 10K has an will be priced $479. Both will be available in mid-September.

It is possible that the name “Satellite Click 10″ will be used for a consumer-oriented device.
